My only published novel is The Very Bad Thing (Viking Penguin, 1990), a book that had a tough time squeezing
into any one genre, but was arguably a mystery. It’s set in Boston and features an unlikely detective hero in the throes of
romantic crisis. My editor hated that there was no dead body by page ten, and that my hero drank too much, but so it was. Viking printed 10,000 copies and despite good reviews they had to eat most of them. You can still find copies through used booksellers
and amazon.com. |

Before and since then, I’ve written books that are much better but apparently less commercially attractive. Two of them are here as free PDF downloads. I’d prefer to have them read than sit in an agent’s pile of manuscripts. So please help yourself. Each book is formatted to be reader-friendly, using printed-novel fonts and spacing as in the descriptions provided.
Please respect that both books are copyrighted and should not be copied or distributed; they are for your personal use only.
Thanks. Please feel free to email me any comments or thoughts on these books. A third may be coming in the near future.
